My first Blog!

When I first started Quite Contrary Cakes nearly 13 years ago, I would search the internet for pictures and recipes that spoke to me. I wanted to feel inspired when I saw a cake, I hope when people look at my cakes they feel the same.

I wanted to find a cake that when I looked at it, I fell in love with and knew I had to make that cake. And to do this I found various blogs and pages. I’ve pinned dozens and dozens and dozens of cake recipes from a variety of cake blogs and websites. I’ve also tried dozens and dozens of those recipes. The amount of cakes I pinned or screen shot is endless. And because if this I have come up with a list of my favourite cake people that have consistently provided incredible-tasting cakes and inspiration for my own cakes. So for my very first blog some 13 years later I have decided to share them with you! I’ve narrowed it down to my top 3.

Here are my favourite cake people!

MY TOP 3 FAVOURITE CAKE DESIGNERS

Peggy Porschen www.peggyporschen.com Peggy provided me with so much inspiration, her work is always so pretty and girly and those that know me, the girlier the better is down my street! Peggys stunning cakes immediately drew me in and her flavours kept me coming back. This was really the first cake designer I started following religiously and books I purchased. I first tried her rich chocolate cake and was blown away by her rich, dark chocolate cake layers she paired with Belgian chocolate frosting. It was decadent, mouth-watering, and oh-so memorable. She’s been one of my go-to cake designer ever since my first bite of that cake.

Zoe Clark www.zoeclarkcakes.com Zoe was my go to girl for wedding cake inspiration. Her cakes are picture perfect! So crisp and clean lines, her cakes and attention for detail are most defiantly up there the best in the world. Her cakes always made me think, 'one day I can be as good as her' and I'm getting there! Her online lessons helped me to become the cake designer I am today and am very thankful to her for her stunning cakes.

Choccywoccydoodah If you want to see some crazy cakes made out purely of chocolate you will be utterly amazed by these. Unfortunately they have closed down now (you will have to google them), which I was gutted about, but I was lucky enough to visit one of their shops in Brighton and also try their cake. Choccywoccydoodah inspired me to have fun with decoration, too think outside the box and never to create the same cake twice, making each cake unique and special to each customer.

I hope you find them all as inspiring as I did! You never know, they may inspire you that much you may open your own cake business!
